Coverville Idol! Cast your vote.

We are very proud to be a part of Coverville Idol! Coverville, as you may know, is the fantastic all cover song podcast hosted by the very excellent Brian Ibbott. Coverville Idol gives musicians the opportunity to submit cover songs on a certain theme. This time out the theme was all songs from 1973. To that end Tara and I recorded a stripped down version of the Emerson, Lake & Palmer ballad "Still... You Turn Me On" which Brian kindly included in the show. Check it out along with the other entries:

http://coverville.com/archives/2007/02/coverville_294.html

Much like the American & Canadian Idol shows, there are judges but the real decision makers are YOU the fans! So please check out the show and cast your votes. Obviously we'd love for you to vote for us, but there are some other good competitors worthy of your attention so check them out as well.

Voting and individual song downloads are on the Coverville site at:

Anniversary Week happenings

Retailers would like you to think of this as "Boxing Week" but to us in Uncle Seth it will always be "Anniversary Week!" Yes, it's been 8 years since the very first Uncle Seth show, and to celebrate we have THREE special events -- two virtual and one in real life!

For those who missed our November 24th "simulcast" in the virtual world of Second Life, we'll be doing a replay at our brand new house in Second Life on SoHo Island as part of our housewarming party. The fun starts at 7 pm Eastern (4 pm Pacific) Time TOMORROW (December 27th). You can get there via our special URL:

http://secondlifeband.com/

And back in Second Life the very next night (Thursday December 28th), we'll be doing an acoustic show at Podcast Island's Death Before Decaf Coffee House at 7:30 pm Eastern (4:30 pm Pacific). You can get there by going to:

http://www.podcastpickle.com/index/podcastisland
(link is at the bottom of the page)

Finally, later on Thursday night you'll be able to catch Uncle Seth in the real world at Gary Seventeen's holiday party at the Renaissance Cafe (1938 Danforth Ave. in Toronto). We'll be on sometime after 10 pm for a 15-minute acoustic set, with lots of other great acts filling out the bill!

Hope you can join us for one of these events, and if not we hope you can catch you us 2007 -- it's shaping up to be an amazing year for Uncle Seth!

Uncle Seth in Second Life

Uncle Seth's Lucky Kiosk #13 in Second LifeI've just established a permanent presence for Uncle Seth in Second Life. We've now got a small storefront on the popular island Music City that I'm affectionately calling "Uncle Seth's Lucky Kiosk #13".

I've also created a direct web link to the storefront at the URL secondlifeband.com.

FYI, Uncle Seth is planning a big Second Life gig in late November, but in the meantime you can catch me doing solo shows there under my SL alias Weiss Plessis. My next gig is at the RoC, just around the corner from Kiosk #13. Appropriately enough, it's on Friday the 13th at 5 pm Pacific Time (SL time and Pacific Time are the same.) Come check it out!

CBC Single Debut & Interview, TIMA Nomination, Applefest!

Three, count 'em three, very excellent pieces of Uncle Seth news:

1) Tomorrow (Saturday September 16) sometime between 5:05 - 6 pm Eastern time, CBC Radio One's show Bandwidth from Ottawa will be debuting the latest Uncle Seth single "To Be An Angel" and broadcasting an interview of Tara and Jay conducted by host Alan Neal earlier this week. The interview focused on the band's recent visit to Boston for PodCamp, and their success with podcasting as a promotional medium.

Unfortunately Bandwidth doesn't archive their shows, so to hear it you'll either have to listen live on the radio in the listening area (in Ontario but NOT in Toronto) or check out the live stream from the website:

http://www.cbc.ca/bandwidth/

2) Uncle Seth are very proud to be nominated once again for the Toronto Independent Music Awards. This year the band is nominated in the category of "Classic Rock"... hmmm, don't really feel old enough to be a classic but what the heck! Check out the many great acts nominated on the website at:

http://www.torontoima.com/nominees.shtml

3) Like apples? Well we sure do! In fact, we like 'em so much that we're celebrating by playing a couple of acoustic sets at the 22nd Annual Markham Applefest. For details, check out the Uncle Seth Shows page at:

Podcasting PSA - "You Don't Need An iPod"

Back in July, I did an interview with John C. Haven's from the About.com Guide To Podcasting about Uncle Seth's involvement with, well, podcasting. After we did the interview, John asked if Uncle Seth would be interested in recording a "public service announcement" about podcasting, and in particular emphasizing that listening to podcasts does NOT require an iPod (a common misconception). We thought this sounded like fun, so John sent along some rough lyrics. We worked these up into a little ditty, and I created some kooky-animation to go along with it.

We released this on YouTube yesterday. Hope you enjoy it! Please comment here or on the YouTube site, and feel free to share with your friends and colleagues via the nifty "Share" button in the window.

Oh yeah, there's also an MP3 version on this page for podcasters (and anyone else) to play. It's 100% "podsafe"

John, thanks again for inviting us to do this, and we look forward to seeing you (and many others) at PodCamp in Boston!

A Tale of Three Shows

I've got a special show, a postponed show, and a non-Uncle Seth show to let
you in on:

1) Saturday June 24 2006
Merchant Tap House, Kingston Ontario
6 Princess St at Ontario
Part of the Podcasters Across Borders conference
With Dala http://www.dalagirls.com/
A FREE show, open to the public. Doors at 8 pm.

We're very excited to be playing for many of our podcasting friends from
Canada and States! This show is going to be a terrific one, so if you're in
the Kingston area, please come by the Merch and join the fun.

2) Sunday June 25 2006
* POSTPONED * Uncle Seth at Kensington Market, Toronto Ontario

Unfortunately due to a double-booking issue, we will not be playing at the
June edition of Pedestrian Sundays in Kensington Market. However, we hope to
be back in time for the July festivities, so stay tuned!

3) Thursday June 29
Hugh's Room, Toronto Ontario
2261 Dundas West
The official debut of The McFlies
http://mcflies.ca/
at "Roots In The Eighties", a benefit for the Fife House HIV/AIDS hostel

The McFlies are dedicated to "folking up the 80s", covering your faves with
an acoustic twist. The band features yours truly in the role of Zippo McFly,
playing harmonica, melodica, bass and basically anything that's put in front
of me as long as it isn't plugged in.

Pedestrian Sundays in Kensington Market

An excellent FREE outdoor Uncle Seth show is coming up that we wanted to let you know about:

Pedestrian Sundays in Kensington Market
Nassau St & Augusta Ave in Toronto
Sunday May 28 - yup, that's just 6 days away!

Joining us on drums will be very special guest Bram Cayne from the great band Tranquil. Bram will be filling in for Chris who will be off in Ottawa running a marathon. Crazy drummers...

We played a couple of Pedestrian Sundays last year and had an AMAZING time! It's a terrific way to spend an afternoon, and we'd love to see you there.

The band will play two sets, at approximately 2 pm again at approximately 5 pm.

Uncle Seth Podcast #6: Trivia from My Trivia Podcast

And be sure to check out My Trivia Podcast at http://www.mytriviapodcast.com/.

Also, because we mentioned it during the podcast we'd also like to give a plug for Podcasters Across Borders in Kingston Ontario in just over a month. In conjunction with the conference Uncle Seth will be playing on June 24th at The Merchant Taphouse with amazing opening band Dala. This FREE show is open to the public.
